Calvert County resident Maria Feaster offers style, service and comfort as owner of Cobbler’s Creations located on Dalrymple Road in Sunderland.

Cobbler’s Creations women’s shoe boutique carries larger sizes and brand name shoes in a range of styles for professional or casual wear.

Feaster is a retired registered nurse with the federal government who said she loves her shoes, but has always found it hard to find a comfortable pair in the larger size that she wears.

“I have big feet, so trying to buy shoes online was always kind of challenging because they wouldn’t fit right or they would be the stated size, but they’d hurt,” Feaster said.

“Or, when I went to the shoe store, they wouldn’t have my size. It would always be something,” she said. “I didn’t like self-service shoe shopping. I have gone to some of the big warehouse-type places and wound up with two left feet or two right feet.”

“I was working over in Falls Church [Va.] … I would shop over there and then I’d go shop in Annapolis,” she added. “But, when you live in the area, sometimes you want to go shopping for nice things close to home.”

Feaster said that since she had always wanted a shoe store of her own, she enrolled in entrepreneur classes at College of Southern Maryland and a business boot camp at Florida State. In May of this year, Feaster put her plan in action with Cobbler’s Creations to give women a local place to shop for comfortable and fashionable brand name shoes in range of styles and sizes.

“That’s the beauty of coming in and buying your shoes in a boutique. You try them on, you like them, purchase them,” Feaster said. “You don’t have to wait for the mail and shipping, and if they’re not right, you still don’t have what you need. So when you walk in here, you find something you like and it fits, you got it. Instant gratification.”

Cobbler’s Creations women’s shoe boutique offers a range of sizes from 5 to 13, wide widths when available, and brand name shoes by Sam Edelman, Anne Klein, Wanted, Via Spiga, Sudini, M4D3, Patricia Green and others.

“One of the brands I carry is Gentle Souls by Kenneth Cole … they have a lot of arch support and they look good,” Feaster said. “Taryn Rose is another brand that I carry. She is an orthopedic surgeon that saw a need for comfortable, luxurious women’s shoes that can be flattering, yet comfortable.”

“Slides, sandals, mules, pumps, I have driving loafers, athletic leisure, open toe, slingbacks, booties, wedges, and things for work, casual, eating out, and definitely things for a professional woman or students,” Feaster added.

Dawn Tucker, business owner and membership chair for Calvert County Minority Business Alliance, said she heard about Cobbler’s Creations during the county’s recent Business Appreciation Week celebration. “I went to the store. It’s a shoe buying experience for distinguishing tastes,” Tucker said. “The shoe collection is beautiful and comfortable, and I was able to find a really nice pair of shoes that were different, yet comfortable and stylish.”

Feaster said she stays current with the changing trends in fashion and shoes through trade shows and industry journals, and will be stocking her store with the latest in footwear for the upcoming change of season.

Feaster also said she looks forward to growing her business, and looks to add more brands and styles to her line of shoe offerings, along with purses and bags.

“I just love beautiful shoes and I want everyone to have beautiful shoes on their feet,” Feaster said. “If you have any gaps in your shoe wardrobe, I can probably fill it.”
